Dear Bruce,
Successful web marketing requires persuasive
messaging, professional presentation, and
pervasive positioning. Our monthly newsletters will give
you no-nonsense tips on how to achieve all three.
This issue is dedicated to Bruce Arnold's valued clients
and business partners. We extend our warmest Holiday
wishes to you and your loved ones, and our hopes for a
happy and prosperous New Year for all!
Building Consumer Confidence
For eCommerce websites, consumer confidence is a
crucial component of persuasive messaging. Without it,
they won't believe your value proposition ... and they
won't buy what you are selling. BBBOnline.org tells us
that "...73% of purchasers and 82% of non-purchasers
cite reliability of business as a major concern when
shopping online." So ... how do you build consumer
confidence? Here are six ways:
FIRST: Make a professional presentation. A
professionally-designed website with secure order forms
shows your audience that you are serious about your
business.... A cheap, quick, do-it-yourself,
"design-it-in-a-day" disaster demonstrates the
opposite.
SECOND: Provide a no-hassle, money-back guarantee.
Make it as strong as you can, for as long as you can.
Remember that Sears Roebuck built an empire
with "Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Money Back".
THIRD: Publish a 24/7 toll-free customer service
number. Toll-free numbers tied to land lines are
available for pennies a minute through
TelephoneFlorida.com. Toll-free numbers tied to
voicemail can be had for less than $100/year though
MaxEmail.com. You are likely find that few people will
actually call you.... They are satisfied just to know
they can!
FOURTH: Provide complete contact information,
including a physical address. If you have a
home-based business, consider letting someone like
The UPS
Store (formerly Mailboxes Etc.) hook you up with a real
street address for under $200/year.
FIFTH: Post a comprehensive privacy statement. Be
as protective of your website visitor, prospect and
customer information as possible.
SIXTH: Have your website certified. BBBOnline.org
claims "... almost 90% of online shoppers would feel
more confident shopping on a site that displays the
BBBOnLine Privacy Seal." BBBOnline.org offers reliability
as well as privacy seal programs. Verisign.com offers a
secure site seal, and Truste.org offers several privacy
seal programs.

your website ROI, give Bruce Arnold a call.

Positioning Benefits Everyone |
 |
A not-for-profit civic organization recently approached
me about redesigning their website. I asked about their
positioning objectives. They
said "Search engine positioning is not important for our
website."
Unusual answer, I thought.... I asked what their
mission was. They said "To promote our
political agenda to the members of the community."
And did they want to use their website to do that?
They said "Yes". So, I asked how they expected their
audience to learn about the website, if it wasn't
positioned in search engines. They said they had an
email list they planned to use to promote the site. I
asked how many people were on their email list. They
said "About 300." And how many people were in their
community? They said "Over 200,000...."
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE, FOLKS?
Let me spell it out: ALL websites worthy of existence
convey a
value proposition (business, political, social, or
otherwise) to a target audience (customers, voters,
residents or others), and 99% of that audience is using
search engines. If you
want
them to "find" you, then you'd better have
Top 20 positioning on keywords related to your value
proposition.... "Viral marketing" theories suggest you
might eventually reach 200,000 people from an initial
mailing of 300 ... but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

99 ... 97 ... 95 ... 75 |
 |
99% of all Internet users reference search engines to
find what they are looking for.
97% of that traffic goes to the Top 20 listings for
any given search.
95% of Bruce Arnold's web clients hold multiple Top
20 positions for their targeted search terms.
Over 75% of Bruce Arnold's web clients hold multiple
NUMBER ONE positions on major search engines.
In other words, Bruce Arnold (re)designs websites so
that they look good, rank high, get traffic, and MAKE
MONEY for their owners. Isn't that really what business
web design should be about?

Web Surfing 101 |
 |
Pop-up ad windows pervade the Internet . . . but you
don't have to put up with them. Dozens of pop-up
blockers are available for download, and many of them
are free. Panicware.com offers "Pop-Up Stopper"
freeware that works well for us. If you'd
like to try it out, you can download it from here:
http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html
One caution: Sometimes this program blocks pop-ups
that you don't want blocked, like the Address window in
Yahoo Mail. You can get around that by simply clicking
the Pop-Up Stopper tray icon off to free wanted
pop-ups, then click it on again when you are finished
with them.
